Hunting today without compromising the existence of kinetic effects for hunting tomorrow is in the interest of all hunters; therefore, the observance of some rules is an important factor.
TEN COMMANDS OF SUSTAINABLE HUNTING
1. Choose to hunt coutades that meet the standards in force and that have policies of cinegetic management that ensure the repopulation of the species.
2. Respect non-hunters, private property, and the preservation of public property.
3. Share with other hunters the experience of hunting, with mutual help, and inform the associations of everything that can contribute to improving the hunting activity.
Call 112 in case of a fire or emergency. If you charge for any ringed copy, send the ring to the ICNB or to the DGRF.
4. Live hunting as a cultural experience, studying the local fauna, knowing the species, their feeding and breeding habits, and respecting the periods of defence.
5. Make sure the target, and what’s beyond it, and only shoot permitted species.
6. Know your rifle well and observe all the safety measures, namely, having the lock in your own gun.
7. Keep the gun in the right position, with the angle of fire in a safe direction. Downloads and opens when close to someone and/or when overcoming obstacles.
8. Choose the cartridges most suitable for the type of hunt you are going to do, and do not shoot if the distance is excessive to the carton you are using.
9. Do not leave cartridges in the field or any other kind of waste.
10. Make hunting an experience that praises friendship, associativism, coexistence, the relaxation of walking in the countryside, and the enjoyment of nature.
Precautions to have
• Protect your ears and eyes whenever you shoot with guns;
• Use the cartridges in weapons preserved and in good condition;
• Before loading the gun, make sure that the pipe is not blocked;
• If the gun fails to fire, wait 30 seconds before unloading it;
• When unloading the gun, always point it in a safe direction;
• When firing the gun, make sure of the target and what is beyond it;
• Use weapons and cartridges properly and safely;
• Do not leave empty boxes or cartridges in the field or any other garbage;
• Do not smoke when using weapons or cartridges.
Considerations to have
• Any weapon that has been, is, or will be designed to kill and/or destroy;
• Weapons were, are, or will be designed to use their respective ammunition;
• Weapons must be used or handled by the holder or in his presence;
• Do not forget that only a bago can reach more than 100 metres;
• Do not forget that any cartridge has over 300 berries;
• Number 7 is the most universal number, with about 2.50mm in diameter and suitable for virtually all species of small hunting;
• Use a larger diameter (< n.º), the larger your hunting piece, and vice versa;
• The L batch is a normal powder load for spring/autumn climatic conditions, i.e., it should be fired between 25ºC and 15ºC;
• Cartridges should be kept in a dry and cool place, i.e., with 60% relative humidity and 21±1ºC temperature;
• Cartridges, as long as they are stored in the said environment, may have a validity of more than 10 years;
